These were sent to Right as Rain, a group that accepts donated handmade items, sells them online, and gives the money directly to a person in need.

I have decided to start selling dolls again. Not a lot, but now and then, anyway. Too many, and it's not fun anymore. ;)

I am clearing out the old dolls, in a style I probably won't be making anymore. I decided to donate the ones I still have, instead of trying to sell them.

The local online pet rat group holds raffles to raise funds for rat rescue, and I will offer these for the next one.

These dolls will be sent to The Comfort Project, which sends art dolls of all sorts to women in domestic abuse shelters.

I made a bunch of small faerie dolls! They could be used as decoration, tree ornaments, package toppers, etc. They are smaller and less elaborate than my other dolls.

As soon as I can figure out these new postage rates (growl), I will post the dolls for sale in my etsy store. Until then, they can be purchased at the Corvallis Artisan's Market.

We had a pretty good first day, in spite of the snow, hail (shown in the photo below), and rain.

There were not a lot of people, but we think that was due to the weather - we're hoping for a better turn-out next week.

We have confirmation that we (myself and AzureFire, working on a collaborative booth) will be in the Corvallis Artisan's Market this spring, summer, and fall. I don't have a booth location yet, but we'll be selling under the name "Twin Flames Faerie Garden". I put location, time, and date information in the sidebar.

Meet Orfhlaith - pronounced "Orla", her name means is Irish and means "Golden Lady". Orfhlaith was designed for the Earth Path Artisan street team's "Autumn Colors & Falling Leaves" challenge. She has a string of beads dangling in her hair, and wears a leafy beaded circlet (made from craft wire and glass beads). Around her neck she wears a beaded necklace with a pewter "tree of life" pendant, to remind us that even though the leaves have fallen, life goes on and they will return again soon. The circle on her belly is adorned with a falling leaf, and it surrounded by autumn-colored glass beads (double-strung and then sewn securely to the doll). The bottom edge of the doll is in a shape reminiscent of a maple leaf.

Orfhlaith is about 9 and a half inches (24 CM) tall. She is made from cotton fabric, glass beads, non-toxic fabric paint, and synthetic yarn hair, and is firmly stuffed with poly-fil. The belly design is screen-printed - I make my own screens and do the printing by hand - sewn to a circle of timtex, then sewn to the doll. Orfhlaith is surface-washable.

Orfhlaith is intended to hang on a wall. A spiral hook has been sewn to the back of her head for this purpose. If you'd prefer to set her on a shelf, her hair will easily hide the hook.

Orfhlaith is an art doll and not a toy or intended for small children, due to small parts.

Healing Hands

The healing hand is an ancient symbol of protection used by many cultures. There is usually an image in the center of the hand: eye, spiral and heart designs are common. The protective energy of the hand is used to attract good luck, happiness, riches and good health.

The spiral is an ancient symbol reflecting the universal pattern of growth and evolution. The spiral pattern appears again and again in the natural world - I have a particular fondness for the snail shell. :) The living spiral represents an ongoing process of innocence, discovery, community, and the essence that connects all things.

This hand is made from an olive-green cotton fabric, decorated with gold spirals and dots. The hand shape itself was from a pattern I made a few years ago, by tracing my son's hand. The disk on the hand was screen-printed by me (I make my own screens using the technique described here: http://community.livejournal.com/craftgrrl/3674467.html?thread=63467107), then sewn to a timtex circle and then to the hand. The glass beads surrounding it are double-strung and sewn securely to the hand. The hand is stuffed lightly with poly-fil and has a magnet sewn into the back. The hand is about 3 and a half inches (8.9 cm) in at the tallest part.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This is Hope, created for Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October). She has short hair (representing post-chemo re-growth) and one breast (with a tiny glass heart-shaped "nipple"). A sterling silver advocacy ribbon is tied in the place of the missing breast. The circle on her belly is adorned with the pink breast cancer advocacy ribbon, and it surrounded by pink glass beads (double-strung and then sewn securely to the doll). Hope is about 11 inches (28 CM) tall.

Hope is made from cotton fabric, glass beads, non-toxic fabric paint, and synthetic yarn hair. She is firmly stuffed with poly-fil. The belly design is screen-printed - I make my own screens and do the printing by hand - sewn to a circle of timtex, then sewn to the doll. Hope is surface-washable.

The PDX esty group is working on a learning collective - this is my "wish list" of things I would like to learn, and what I can teach.

I would like to take classes about:

any info about marketing, taxes for small businesses, etc.

I can teach classes about:

basic sewing (primarily geared towards plushies but the techniques translate to other projects) - I am not a machine expert tho so you'd need to know how yours works

very basic inkle weaving (real inkle looms are *expensive* - my smallest one was $40 - but we can make a quick and dirty one from PVC tubes and a cardboard box for a few bucks)

very basic kumihimo (on a disk)

very very VERY basic screenprinting, using the embroidery hoop, organza, and mod podge method

beginning blackwork (medieval embroidery technique)

basic intro to HTML

Pretty much anything regarding crafts for children
